"Please Don't Say You Love Me"
Summer comes, winter fades
Here we are just the same
We don't need pressure, we don't need change
Let's not give the game away

There used to be an empty space
A photograph without a face
But with your presence, and your grace
Everything falls into place

Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back
Doesn't mean my heart stops skipping when you look at me like that
There's no need to worry when you see just where we're at
Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back

Heavy words are hard to take
Under pressure precious things can break
How we feel is hard to fake
So let's not give the game away

Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back
Doesn't mean my heart stops skipping when you look at me like that
There's no need to worry when you see just where we're at
Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back

And fools rush in
And I've been the fool before
This time I'm gonna slow down
'Cause I think this could be more
The thing I'm looking for

Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back
Doesn't mean my heart stops skipping when you look at me like that
There's no need to worry when you see just where we're at
Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back

Please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back
Doesn't mean my heart stops skipping when you look at me like that
There's no need to worry when you see just where we're at
Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back

Just please don't say you love me
'Cause I might not say it back

This song is by Gabrielle Aplin. This genre of song is a mix of genres but it has folk in it which is why I chose this as it is similar to our chosen band. This song is similar as the tone of her voice and the instruments give it that folk like sound. The lyrics is also a similar factor as our chosen band writes songs about similar subjects as Gabrielle does. Another thing that makes this video folk genre is the shots that are used. In folk videos there are always shots of performance but also a strong narrative which is usually something to do with couples which is included in this video so it gives my group lots of ideas of what to include in our video to keep it to the genre. The meaning of this song, I think, is that in relationships you shouldn't rush things just because one person may not feel the same about the other. I think the song is trying to teach people from the view of Gabrielle, it's as if she has experienced it herself and is now sharing it with us through song. This is exactly what our chosen song is about so they are very similar. This song and video is very conventional for our genre which is folk. It is conventional as the typical folk song is about relationships which is what our chosen song is about. I believe folk music is more natural, simple and all about the lyrics and song rather than the music video.

"Panic Cord"
Ahhhhhhhh
Ahhhhhhhh

You kept all the things I threw away
A leaf i picked a birthday card I made
Holding on to memories of you and me
We didn't last a year, oh
We're just a box of souvenirs
'Cause

Maybe I pulled the panic cord
Maybe you were happy, I was bored
Maybe I wanted you to change
Maybe I'm the one to blame

This meant more to you than it did to me
I was full of doubt and you believed
The more that you keep coming over
The more I know it's over, dear
We're just a box of souvenirs
'Cause

Maybe I pulled the panic cord
Maybe you were happy, I was bored
Maybe I wanted you to change
Maybe I'm the one to blame
Maybe you were just too nice to me
Maybe it took me way to long to leave
Maybe once we felt the same
Maybe I'm the one to blame
Maybe I'm the one to blame

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
That's the way the story goes, oh
Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do
That's the way the story goes, oh

Maybe I pulled the panic cord
Maybe you were happy, I was bored
Maybe I wanted you to change
Maybe I'm the one to blame
Maybe you were just to nice to me
Maybe it took me way to long to leave
Maybe once we felt the same
Maybe I'm the one to blame
Maybe I'm the one to blame
Maybe I'm the one to blame

This song is also similar to our chosen one as it is also folk. You can see this from the use of instruments which you would normally see in folk music videos but also the performance of the artist as well as the song. All of the concepts are very important to make a successful folk music video and this video has it all. The video is very catchy and has a good beat, like our song, which is important as from talking to people that is what people expect from a folk music video. All of this helps my group with ideas for our music video as it gives us a level at which we need to achieve to make a successful video and to make sure the song and the band is shown in the right way so that it can show the qualities of them.

Passenger

Michael David Rosenberg (born 17 May 1984), better known by his stage name Passenger, is a British folk-rock singer-songwriter. His stage moniker comes from being the folk-rock band's main vocalist and songwriter, and which released just one album (Wicked Man's Rest). When the members of the band chose to go their own separate ways in 2009, Rosenberg opted to keep the band's name for his solo work. His most successful single "Let Her Go" has topped the charts in 16 countries so far.

"Let Her Go"
Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin' home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go

Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast

You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies

But you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missin' home
Only know you love her when you let her go

Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
'Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast

Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
'Cause you loved her too much
And you dived too deep

Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missin' home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go (oh, oh, ooh, oh no)
And you let her go (oh, oh, ooh, oh no)
Will you let her go?

'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missin' home
Only know you love her when you let her go

'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missin' home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go

This song is another representation of folk music. The performance, instruments combined with the tone of his voice and the lyrics makes this song a great folk song. It is a very catchy song which is easy to follow and appeals to a wide audience. I think it is because of the lyrics are speaking truths which everyone can relate to. The instruments are a very important factor in folk music and in this video there are lots of them and they give the video a sense of being at a concert of his. The song and video gives me so many ideas for our video and how to make it successful and how to appeal to so many people. This video gives the impression that it is about an relationship which I have found that most folk music is based on. It makes the video and song very conventional to the genre because of the lyrics, song and also the instruments used in it.

Passenger lyrics : "Hearts on Fire (feat. Ed Sheeran)"
If my true love's gone
I will surely find another
And to her Iwill sing
Things that make her know I want her
So would you go, lassie, go
And we'll all go together
Where the wild mountain thyme
Grows around bloomin' heather
Would you go, lassie, go

Well, I don’t know how, and I don’t why
But when something’s living, you can’t say die
You feel like laughing, but you start to cry
I don’t know how, and I don’t know why

Well, I don’t have many, and I don’t have much
In fact I don’t have any, but I borrow enough
‘Cause I know those eyes, and I know that touch
I don’t have many, and I don’t have much

But oh, darling, my heart’s on fire
Oh, darling, my heart’s on fire
Oh, darling, my heart’s on fire
For you

Well, I don’t know where, and I don’t when
But I know we’ll be lovers again
I’ll see you some day before the end
I don’t know where, and I don’t know when

But oh, darling, my heart’s on fire
Oh, darling, my heart’s on fire
Oh, darling, my heart’s on fire
You know those love songs break your heart
You know those love songs break your heart
You know those love songs break your heart

Oh, darling, my heart’s on fire (x10)
For you.

This is another of his songs. As we know he is folk rock artist and his songs are very popular. In the video he has Ed Sheeran who is a similar artist to him as he too is a folk singer. Both of them have guitars, a typical instrument to see in folk music videos, but the way they interact with each other as they are performing really shows their love of music and how they interperate the lyrics in a meaningful way which relates and interests the audience.

"Skinny Love"(originally by Bon Iver)
Come on skinny love just last the year,
Pour a little salt you were never here,
My my my, my my my, my-my my-my...
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer.

Tell my love to wreck it all,
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall,
My my my, my my my, my-my my-my...
Right in the moment this order's tall.

And I told you to be patient,
And I told you to be fine,
And I told you to be balanced,
And I told you to be kind,
And in the morning I'll be with you,
But it will be a different kind,
'Cause I'll be holding all the tickets,
And you'll be owning all the fines.

Come on skinny love, what happened here?
Suckle on the hope in light brassieres,
My my my, my my my, my-my my-my...
Sullen load is full, so slow on the split.

And I told you to be patient,
And I told you to be fine,
And I told you to be balanced,
And I told you to be kind,
And now all your love is wasted,
Then who the hell was I?
'Cause now I'm breaking at the britches,
And at the end of all your lies.

Who will love you?
Who will fight?
And who will fall far behind?

Come on skinny love,
My my my, my my my, my-my my-my...
My my my, my my my, my-my my-my.

This is a simple song but the way the music video is filmed gives the real meaning behind the song a new look. The piano is another instrument which is usually seen with folk music. This song is similar to our chosen song as it is about love and relationships. And as it is a girl singing it is like it is from her point of view which is what our chosen song is doing as well. She also, like our band, plays the piano herself. This isn't her song but it is her own spin on it. Again this is the type of artist that is similar to our chosen one. Even the songs are of similar subjects which are relationships. This is the typical theme you see in this genre. I think the song and video are trying to tell the story of a relationship which is going down hill which is the same subject as our chosen song.

"People Help The People"(originally by Cherry Ghost)
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess he kissed the girls and made them cry
Those Hard-faced Queens of misadventure
God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken lives
Fiery throngs of muted angels
Giving love but getting nothing back,oh

People help the people
And if you're homesick, give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
And nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away

God knows what is hiding in this world of little consequence
Behind the tears, inside the lies
A thousand slowly dying sunsets
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess the loneliness came knocking
No one needs to be alone, oh singin'

People help the people
And if you're homesick, give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away

Nah Naaah nah nah naaaaahhhhhh oooouuuu

Nah Naaah nah nah naaaaahhhhhh oooouuuu

People help the people
And if you're homesick, give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
Nothing will drag you down
Oh and if I had a brain,
Oh and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as a fool
That turned all those good hearts away

This is a simple video with narrative as well as performance. The video is in black and white which gives the sense that as it has no colour the song is sad but also that nothing else will distract people from the song and the meaning behind it which she is showing in the video. This song also isnt hers but it is her own spin on it.
