Analysis of similar artists CD album covers (ISL)

These pictures are of the front and back cover of Ed Sheeran's album. He is a similar artist to our chosen band as he is a mix of genres with folk included. He has a similar sound to our chosen band. On the front cover you can see it very simple. It is an extreme close up picture of Ed Sheeran. The back ground is a ginger orange with simple printed black text at the top of the album. There is also a small dog print and also a small white plus sign in the corner of the album. Ed Sheeran is a very original artist and you can tell through his music as well as looking at him, but his album cover really portrays the idea of how he is simple and also with a little bit of humour because he is ginger.  The back cover is also simple with the same deign as the front but with the titles of the songs.

These pictures are of the front and back cover of mumford and sons album. These arte similar to our chosen band as they are a folk band. On the front cover you can see a picture of the band and a blur of people around them. It is like they are trying to say that everything goes past them in a blur. The title of the band and the album is in simple black text at the bottom of the album. The back cover is different from the front as it is a simple picture of a messy window for the background with simple white text for the titles of the songs.

The pictures above are of the front and back cover of Charlene Soraia's album. The front cover is also very simple as it is a picture of Charlene with a light behind her, so it gives her hair and face a sort of glow but also a outline. the background is just black and the title of the album is at the top is simple white text. The back cover also has a black background with simple white text for the titles of the songs.

  1. • Research is comprehensive and detailed. You’ve covered more than is required which is really pleasing. There’s a real sense of teamwork and direction here.
    • The Gabrielle Aplin video might give you some ideas – think about how folk music places importance on musicianship – serious performers showing their skills in singing / playing.
    • Questionnaire is effective – remember your audience won’t understand disjuncture!!!!
    • We’ll do some more work on how to analyse digipaks / CD covers – you’ve got some good ideas here but need to show a bit more knowledge of conventions and be able to comment on design features a little more precisely.
    • Next steps – ensure that your audience research is comprehensive, well analysed and feedback is acted upon. Try to show how you incorporate your audience’s ideas into your promo. Ensure that you record this as you progress. Also, keep referring back to your audience to test ideas – basically show how your production evolves.
    • Very well done!

  2. Sorry - forgot to add - for research into conventions of the promo this is a high L3 / B - so looking really good. Keep focusing on using terminology accurately and providing detailed analysis. Explore how what you have researched will inform your own production.
