Songs:

Since you been gone by Kelly Clarkson. The lyrics:
"Since U Been Gone"
Here's the thing we started out friends
It was cool but it was all pretend
Yeah yeah
Since U Been Gone

You dedicated you took the time
Wasn't long till I called you mine
Yeah Yeah
Since U Been Gone

And all you'd ever hear me say
Is how I pictured me with you
That's all you'd ever hear me say

But Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get
What I want
Since U Been Gone

How can I put it? You put me on
I even fell for that stupid love song
Yeah, yeah
Since U Been Gone

How come I'd never hear you say
I just wanna be with you
I guess you never felt that way

But Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get (I get) what I want
Since U Been Gone

You had your chance you blew it
Out of sight, out of mind
Shut your mouth I just can't take it
Again and again and again and again

Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you (thanks to you)
Now I get, I get what I want
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you (thanks to you)
Now I get (I get)
You should know (you should know)
That I get, I get what I want
Since U Been Gone
Since U Been Gone
Since U Been Gone

And ....

So what by Pink. The lyrics:
"So What"
Na na na na na na na na na na na na [x2]
I guess I just lost my husband,
I don't know where he went,
So I'm gonna drink my money,
I'm not gonna pay his rent,
I got a brand new attitude and
I'm gonna wear it tonight,
I wanna get in trouble,
I wanna start a fight,
na na na na na na na I wanna start a fight,
na na na na na na na I wanna start a fight.

[Chorus:]
So, so what
I'm still a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
And now that we’re done,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
I'm just fine,
And you're a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight.

(Uh check my flow, aw)
The waiter just took my table,
And gave it to Jessica Simps (shit!),
I guess I'll go sit with drum boy,
At least he'll know how to hit,
What if this song's on the radio,
then somebody's gonna die,
I'm gonna get in trouble,
My ex will start a fight,
na na na na na na na he's gonna start a fight,
na na na na na na na we're all gonna get in a fight!

[Chorus]

You weren't there,
You never were,
You want it all,
But that's not fair,
I gave you life,
I gave my all,
You weren't there,
You let me fall.

[Chorus]

No, no, no, no
I don't want you tonight,
You weren't there,
I'm gonna show you tonight,
I'm alright,
And you're a tool,
And your a tool,
So, so what,
I am a rock star,
I got my rock moves,
And I don't want you tonight!

These are our ideas so far.

Can’t stop – chilli peppers

Can’t stop – chilli peppers

"Can't Stop" is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers from their 2002 album, By the Way. It is the third single released from the album.
"Can't Stop" is one of the few tracks on By the Way to revisit the original Chili Peppers method of short, rapped verses, containing fewer amounts of implemented texture. "Can't Stop" is unique, however, as it contains melodic and layered guitar and lyrical progressions, which the band's earlier work did not.
The song was the Chili Peppers' eighth number one Billboard Modern Rock Tracks where it spent three weeks topping the chart, and peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song performed moderately well on various other charts worldwide, as well as Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts, respectively. It was also the band's only #1 single not to be included on their 2003 Greatest Hits album.
This song is a playable track in the game Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades. The genre of this song is Funk rock, rap rock, alternative rock.
This video is so random, nothing to do with the song but it is so interesting. These are the lyircs:
Can't stop, addicted to the shindig
Chop top, he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunct, the pistol that you pay for
This punk, the feeling that you stay for
In time, I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the West End
Knock out, but boy you better come to
Don't die, you know the truth is some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright, I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble
Go ask the dust for any answers
Come back strong with 50 belly dancers

[Chorus:]
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to

Sweetheart is bleeding in the snow cone
So smart, she's leading me to ozone
Music, the great communicator
Use two sticks to make it in the nature
I'll get you into penetration
The gender of a generation
The birth of every other nation
Worth your weight the gold of meditation
This chapter's gonna be a close one
Smoke rings, I know you're gonna blow one
All on a spaceship persevering
Use my hands for everything but steering
Can't stop, the spirits when they need you
Mop tops are happy when they feed you
J. Butterfly is in the treetop
Birds that blow the meaning into bebop

[Chorus]

Wait a minute I'm passing out
Win or lose, just like you
Far more shocking
Than anything I ever knew
How 'bout you
10 more reasons
Why I need somebody new, just like you
Far more shocking
Than anything I ever knew
Right on cue

Can't stop, addicted to the shindig
Chop top, he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunct, the pistol that you pay for
This punk, the feeling that you stay for
In time, I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the West End
Knock out, but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth is some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright, I wonder what the wave meant

Kick start the golden generator
Sweet talk, but don't intimidate her
Can't stop the gods from engineering
Feel no need for any interfering
Your image in the dictionary
This life is more than ordinary
Can I get 2 maybe even 3 of these
Comin' from space
To teach you of the Pleiades
Can't stop the spirits when they need you
This life is more than just a read-through

Conventions of a music promo

Conventions of a music promo

Camera work
- Close ups = instruments, performers – privileged access, musicianship
- Mid shots = instruments and performers
- Movement – creates interest
- Audience reaction
- 1st person point of view – viewer is audience
- Crane shots
- Tilts
- Performing to the camera
Editing / editing effects (For example One direction's song kiss you)

- Cut to the beat
- Genre of music will dictate editing pace
- Sfx, visual effects common
- Green screen
- Jump cuts
- Different transitions
Mise – en – scene (for example you me at six's song bite my tongue)

- Instruments = credible performers, realism
- Location = link to lyrics/ genre – often urban/ derelict
- Cast – not just band
- Representation? Stereotypes?
- Costumes – links to genre
- High key lighting
Narrative / performance (for example fall out boy's song light em up)

- Links to lyrics
- Bands
- 'Live'
- Intertextuality
- Repeatability
- Don’t use ‘traditional’ narrative – not necessarily a start, middle and end
Concepts of music in promos – similar in adverts?
Illustration - the promo is basically illustrates the ideas/narrative in the song lyrics.
Oasis -  cigrettes and alcohol:

Amplification – the promo uses a key idea/image from the lyrics and develops it.
Coldplay - the scientist:

Disjuncture – the promo bears no resemblance to the lyrics or it meaning; often seen as unconventional/ ‘arty’ videos. (Radiohead - just)

Shot types

There are about approx 120 shots in this video. Below are shots from the video (they arent all in order).

This is a low to high long shot. It is framed to include all of the band and the location as it sets the scene.

This is a high to low mid shot, framed to include the band and location again but it also shows the feautures and reactions as the song starts.

of the instruments and some of
the other band members.

This is a close up of te main band member as he sings but it also shows a kind of crazy look in his eye.

This is another close up of the main band members face as he is 'rockin out'.

This is a long tracking shot of a van as it drives by but it also shows on the screen where it is like movies and tv shows do sometimes.

This is a mid point of view shot. This shot shows two of the band members in the car wiping at the windows as they are steamed up of the van is full of smoke.

This is a mid shot of one member
hanging out of the window
looking at somthing as you can
see someone in the frame.
This is a mid shot of girls as it is the second shot of the one above. It is like the point of view of that band member.

This is a mid shot of the two band members falling out of the
car.
This is a long shot of the band at a pool. It shows the change in location.

This is a mid shot of the band playing a sort of prank on some girls going down a water slide. It is something typical boys might do.

This is a mid shot of all of the band. Which is like a match for the next shot of the three girls.

Modern music

Music has changed a lot from bands like Queen and Wham to bands like Thirty seconds to mars and The script. Below are some videos of songs that i think are the greatest impact on the audience of today.

This video is of Christina Perri's song 'A thousand years'. This is a love song which is featured in the film Breaking Dawn part one, twilight saga films. It is pop, pinao rock. It is a very popular song as it appeals to everyone, the lyrics and the simple video creates an emotional response with the viewers. The video includes clips of the Breaking Dawn film so that it can also promote the film as well as this song. The way she is dressed is so simple but it still keeps you interested in what she is actually singing. It was released in 2011 and was written by Christina Perri.

The video above is of Selena Gomez's song 'Come and Get it'. It was released in 2013 and was written by Ester Dean, M.S. Eriksen, and T.E. Hermansen. It is a Worldbeat, tribal-electropop. It is a song which you cannot stay still to, its Bollywood inspired from the music to the way she dresses and dances. It tells a story through the lyrics and some of the shots used in the video like the dance scene and the shots of Selena with a boy. It is a very modern song which appeals to a wide younger audience.

"Hall of Fame" is a song by Irish piano rock band The Script. It is the lead single from their third studio album #3. The track features The Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am. The track was given its first radio play on Capital on 23 July 2012.  Written and co-produced by the band, the song is about following on your dreams and making an impact on the world. The song was also made the official theme for WWE's 2013 Hall Of Fame ceremony. The song is also being used to advertise the return of serial dramas All My Children and One Life to LiveA lyric video for the track was released on 23 July 2012. The music video was released on 19 August through the band’s official site. The accompanying music video sees the stars performing the track in a deserted warehouse, while other scenes feature an aspiring boxer and deaf ballet dancer in training. It is Pop rock, piano rock. This is an inspiring video and song as it shows that anyone can do anything even if your deaf.

"Heart Attack" is a song by recorded by American singer Demi Lovato for her fourth studio album Demi (2013). It was released on February 24, 2013 by Hollywood Records as the lead single from the album. The song was written by Sean Douglas, Nikki Williams, Aaron Phillips and Lovato, with the song's producers Mitch Allan and Jason Evigan. "Heart Attack" is an electropop song that employs cardiac arrest as a metaphor for love sickness. The single debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is a very good song as it appeals to a lot of people due to the fact that it is saying what most people think about relationships. I like the song as it is very catchy and when you sing it you can belt it out. The video is so strange but it is eye catching.

Radioactive" is a song recorded by American indie rock band Imagine Dragons for their major-label debut EP Continued Silence and later on their debut studio album, Night Visions, as the opening track. "Radioactive" was first sent to radio on April 2, 2012 and again on October 29, 2012 as the second single in the United States and the third overall.
Musically, "Radioactive" is an indie rock song with elements of electronic rock and dubstep, while containing cryptic lyrics of apocalyptic and revolutionist themes. The song received acclaim from critics who praised the production, lyrics, and vocals and calling it a highlight on the album. Due to heavy rotation on commercials and trailers, in the USA the song has so far reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, their first top 10 single. It also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs, Billboard Rock Songs, and Swedish Singles charts. It has topped the Billboard Alternative Songs chart for 13 weeks. This video is one of my favorite songs . It is different from most as the it has a good beat and the lyrics are easy to remember. The video is also interesting as its like they are singing about what is going to happen in the future.

"My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)" is a song written and recorded by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released as the lead single for their fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll. It serves as the band's comeback single following their three-year hiatus and regrouping in early 2013. The track was released on February 4, 2013 worldwide and February 5, 2013 in North America to coincide with the official news of the band's reformation. The band felt that the song best represented their album at its core. This video is a perfect exmaple of starting over, which is what the band wanted to be put across as this is their first song since they got back together. I love this song as it has a good beat, the lyrics are good and meaningful and the video is interesting and eye catching.

"Still Into You" is a song by American rock band Paramore. It was released on March 14, 2013 as the second single from their self-titled fourth album, Paramore. Different from their previous single "Now", which showed a darker intensity, "Still Into You" derives from genres such as power pop, pop rock and new wave. The song has received positive reviews from music critics, who have praised the pop rock sound, and Hayley Williams' vocals, commending them as "strong and effective". It is Power pop, pop rock, new wave music.
I think this video is a good example of how people feel about others. It is also a very interesting vdieo and the lyrics are amzing.

"Bite My Tongue" is the second single from You Me at Six's third studio album Sinners Never Sleep. The single was released on 4 December 2011 as a digital download in the United Kingdom. The single only reached #124 on the UK Singles Chart. The song features vocals from Oliver Sykes of Bring Me the HorizonThe music video to accompany the release of "Bite My Tongue" was first released onto YouTube on 6 November 2011 at a total length of three minutes and forty-five seconds. It is Alternative rock. post-hardcore. I think this is a perfect rocking out song. It has a good beat, it might not be for everyone but it is still an amazing song and expresses the general feelings of everyone. The video is very interesting and makes you really watch.

"Troublemaker" is a song by English recording artist Olly Murs, released as the lead single from his third studio album Right Place Right Time (2012). It features American rapper Flo Rida. "Troublemaker" was co-written by Olly Murs, Steve RobsonClaude Kelly and Flo Rida, and was produced by Robson. The song premiered on 8 October 2012, in the United Kingdom on the Capital FM radio station and was made available to download on 12 October in certain international territories. "Troublemaker" was a major commercial success. In the United Kingdom the song debuted atop the UK Singles Chart, making it Murs' fourth single to reach number one and his first to spend more than a week at the top spot. It also served as the closing song at Murs's 2013 arena tour. This song is kind of comical and is fun to listen to as it is catchy and has a good beat.
